You Don't Lock Your
Doors During A Sale
People often ask us how we
have been so successful. Lasting over a decade in a volatile and
dynamic market has not been easy.
Every time an operating system
is upgraded, we have to compensate for new technology and
operating system errors or omissions. When new problems like pop
up blockers are standard on every computer modifying pages, we
have to adapt and make sure that 100% of our pages work on 100%
of the computers.
The hard part s avoiding the
fads, staying out of the mass hysteria when new ideas hit the web.
In the early days, every webmaster added a chatroom and a
guestbook to every website because it was in vogue. But when I
visit a website that does industrial import and export of heavy
equipment to foreign countries, I have to ask why they have a
chatroom.
Just because the other guy did
it does not mean you should.
That has always been our stand.
While we watch the other guys add flash and video to their
websites in the shadow of youtube, we restrain ourselves and keep
it simple.
When I click on an add at
google and get an error message that I need a newer browser or I
should download and install some plug in to view the website I
just laugh. Knowing the people just paid up to $1 to get me to
their site and I am clicking the back button after never seeing
anything.
It would be like advertising a
1/2 price sale and forgetting to unlock the front doors.
Over and over I see more and
more sites that just don't work.
In the case of small retailers,
I understand that when a new Microsoft operating system is
released, they don't have $10,000.00 to update their website to
make sure it works with the new browsers and remains compatible.
But here at pageBuzz, we do
that for you. We run one set of programs across the board. Every
merchant uses the same technology. Just like buying a version of
windows, you depend on the experts to do the programing and pay
your $100 for the latest technology. You would never try to
reprogram your old operating system to meet the same level as the
one you can buy for $100.
That has been our strongest
selling point. People know that their shopping cart is working
today and next month, it will still be working and if it isn't,
the programmers will fix it at no cost to them.
It is often hard to convince
our clients not to use the latest technology. People want flashy
sites and main stream looks. But what good is a page that people
can't see. What good is a shopping cart that people can't shop
from?
For the small business, losing
one customer is too many. And running a sale with the doors
locked is just not going to cut it. Being small, they find out
directly from their customers that their site is not working.
Where large companies have support departments that just shrug
off complaints and assume the customer just does not know what
they are doing before assuming their IT staff is just is clueless.
We are a small company, we
deal directly with our customers. When someone tells us that our
door is locked, we try to find out what they think it is. We make
adjustments in software so our software works instead of asking
the customer to install a plug in. We make our systems work on
everyones computer so we don't get hundreds of calls asking for
help.
Your support staff can be very
small if your product works. And ours does. As a result of
constant feedback from our customers as well as the millions of
second level users we keep everything functional.
As a result, our customers
almost never leave us. We update technology as quickly as
possible and keep our customers on the leading edge while not
compromising functionality.
That is our secret. Oh, that
and working 100+ hours a week like every other small business.
