I have to spend a lot of time
in forums and online doing research and learning what is next,
what is now, and what we might be missing so we can stay up to
date and add new features to pageBuzz..
So I see loads of comments
from webmasters and developers.
And one thing always stands
out like a sore thumb.
They all appear to to be sudo
intellectual snobs.
Constantly putting down people
that don't know as much about building website, belittling people
who are looking for solutions that are easy and fast.
The webmasters make everything
seem overly complicated, so they can maintain their supremacy
over the rest of us.
Hey, I have been building
websites as long as anyone, probably longer, and I would most
certainly consider myself an expert.
In fact, I probably built more
sites last year than most webmasters will build in a lifetime.
So I am extremely offended
when a bunch of webmasters jump on me and tell me that the tools
I use are not professional, that they don't have what the real
professionals need, they can't do what real professionals do and
so on...
They say that the only
advantage of my drag and drop editor is that it is simple, easy,
and fast to build a web page.
But that the true professional
and correct way to build pages it is by working the the code,
tweaking the html and css. And by doing it with expensive
complicated software.
Wait!
The only advantage of pageBuzz
is that it is fast, easy to use and saves you time?
So, you are telling me, it is
better to pay a webmaster, spend a pile of cash, wait a couple of
weeks for updates than to go online for 2 minutes and make the
changes myself?
Are these webmasters 30 year
olds living in their mom's basement, smoking pot, and still
working the same minimum wage job they had in high school?
Because any one that has ever
worked at or run a business knows that time is everything.
Time costs money and you get
paid for time.
So if a webmaster saved time
building a website, well, they would have to charge less money
for it.
Now before I throw webmasters
under the bus, lets take a look at making some simple changes
using the pagebuzz drag and drop editor and one of their "professional
programs" Adobe Dreamweaver.
Adding 2 pictures to the page
takes just a few clicks using the drag and drop editor.
Adding the same 2 images using
Adobe Dreamweaver requires much more time.
To make the same change that
took just 15 seconds with the online tools can take as much as 15
minutes using the professional offline tools. Requiring editing
of image paths and uploading files to seperate directories on the
web server via an FTP program.
So one takes 15 seconds and
one takes 15 minutes.
We both did the same thing and
we both have the same page in the end.
When you compound that time
over hundreds of pages, what you can do in 1 hour will take the
webmaster a full week.
In fact, it is the webmaster
that is refusing to embrace tools that make the job easier.
Do webmasters tell carpenters
they are not professional because they use power saws with laser
guides and air nailers instead of hand saws and hammers?
Do webmasters tell farmers
they are not professional because they use a 4 wheel drive
tractor to plow the field instead of a team of draft horses?
So why are they telling me I
am not professional when I use tools that make my job easier,
faster and more efficient?
Of course the webmasters are
going say that.
After all, what are they going
to say? You don't need them.
That now they have been
replaced by technology.
That now anyone can do what
they do.
What takes them 30 minutes can
now be done in 3 clicks?
Of course not.
So all the dreadful comments
online putting down us non webmasters, that just shows me their
frustration.
Just like anyone who's job has
been replaced by changes in technology.
One day you have a secure high
paying job, the next your company buys a computer that does it
better and your fired.
So I really can't blame them
for being frustrated.
Unfortunately, you can't
believe what they tell you because they are just trying to
survive.
And if that means telling you
that you should not use pageBuzz to build your website because it
is not professional, well, that is what they are going to do.
That means that a huge portion
of the information you find online about building websites is not
reliable.
It has been posted by mean and
frustrated webmasters trying to influence your decisions.
So you need to be extremely
careful who you decide to listen to and trust.
You built your business by
making sensible decisions.
When it comes to building
websites, sometimes a little common sense is all you need.
