Why do webmaster
hate site builders so much and just refuse to build on them?
If you are new to websites you
have to understand that basic hosting is just the process of
leasing space on a server so you can upload files that other
people can access. For the purpose of this article that is all
you need to understand.
Companies like Hostgator offer
some software and online tools with their package, primarily a
package called cPanel which is a great tool for
experienced webmasters. It allows them to install PHP modules and
Perl modules, install programs like wordpress and other free
programs that are bundled into the package to make it look more
appealing.
Now if you don't write PHP or
cgi code then there is little value to you. If you don't need to
add new users, ftp accounts or change passwords for users, it has
no value to you.
Of course, the experienced
webmaster needs all of those sudo administrator functions because
they are not "real system administrators" and they need
a GUI (Graphical User Interface) that lets then run functions to
make it easier.
If they knew how to install a
module or configure files to set up program installs they would
not need a button to click to do those things.
The cPanel interface makes it
easy for them to perform functions that they don't understand and
likely don't want to learn when they can just click a button.
Now pageBuzz takes over where
cPanel leaves off.
There are very few people that
understand php or any type of coding, css, ftp and so on. So the
rest of us need tools to be able to manage our websites. To add
pages, edit pages and manage an online store.
pageBuzz provides those tools
as well as the programs to run your website.
Our competitors give you open
source programs that anyone can download for free, programs like
OS Commerce or Zen Cart, wordpress but of course they have
already downloaded them and in many cases will install them for
you.
However, that is where their
support ends. They did not write the programs, they don't develop
them so they wont help you as you use them. You are on your own
trying to navigate a complicated program with absolutely no
support.
So what happens when you have
a question? They tell you to do a google search and see if you
can find the answer.
Good luck with that.
Now companies like Godaddy do
have their own tools for managing websites and ecommerce, but
they charge extra for them. So the $1.99 you see advertised
quickly becomes $199.00 by the time you add the tools you want.
So while you see these amazing
prices for shared hosting plans, they actually offer nothing of
value to the average user.
Trying to pass off wordpress
as a content management system is a lot like try to pass off a
moped as an SUV. If you need a vehicle to get to work each day,
yes a moped is cheap and it will likely get you where you need to
be, but it wont be good enough for 99% of people driving to work
each day.
Most people just want a simple
interface to edit pages, add pages and manage the simple website
the need for their business.
They don't want to learn how
to use FTP or manage files and file paths in complex directories.
They want something that makes sense and tools they can just
click on to do the things they want to do with their website.
So the business owners are not
much different than the webmasters using cpanel to manage their
website, they just have tools that do different things.
But here is what gets me going.
Those same webmasters look at
pageBuzz.com or Godaddy's website tonight like some website
builder for idiots.
So because you need a tool to
help you build a page or make a menu for the side of the page,
you are an idiot. But they are not idiots because they can't
install a program without a GUI tool.
It seems like there is a
double standard when it comes to what webmasters know and they
don't know.
It is OK for them not to know
something, but not OK if you don't know something that they do
know.
Really it is just childish
garbage by a bunch of insecure nerds making themselves feel
better by putting down anyone that knows less than they do about
anything in general.
The fact is website builders
are extremely popular and in fact almost all large companies use
systems so that their employees can manage websites without
server access.
But for smaller companies
those types of system are usually cost prohibitive. Most
webmasters are not programmers and don't have the ability to
create them from scratch so they don't use them at all.
That is where pageBuzz comes
in, giving you those types of tools at an affordable price. A
system that lets anyone build and manage an online business
without being a webmaster, without downloading expensive software
or learning complex coding.
It is a full set of tools to
give you control of the website just like the so called
professional webmasters use to manage their back end functions
but in a way that you can understand.
Now, if you can click a button
and build a page, webmasters don't like that one bit, because you
don't need them. So they do everything in their power to put you
down and make you feel like an idiot.
But remember, they use the
same types of tools, so who is the real idiot?
It is really sad that so many
webmasters are just against anything that is easy, because it
makes what they do is not so special.
If anyone could do your job,
you would feel threatened, no security and no self worth.
That is what site builders
like pageBuzz do to webmasters. It takes the complex out of the
task and lets anyone do it.
This is nothing new.
When DOS came out it was a
command line system, you had to understand what to type and why
to type it, to do anything.
Then windows shows up, easy to
start, easy to click on a program and use it.
So are all the people who use
windows idiots? Because the windows visual functions make using a
computer easier?
The fact is, having windows
changed the face of computing, because more people could do it.
Anyone could use a computer not just the computer nerds.
Today we have the same
scenario unfolding, webmasters that are being replaced by
graphical user interfaces and they are kicking and screaming like
little babys.
Every time a new program or
new feature is added that makes something easier, the webmasters
have a little less value. So they respond by calling people
idiots, talking trash and ranting like contestants on the Jerry
Springer show.
So as sane people we need to
realize why this crying children are doing this and just move on.
Don't be swayed by one of
these webmasters telling you that sites builders are just no good.
Because they will try to swing
you to an open source program like Joomla or OS commerce because
it is complicated enough that you will never understand it and
always need them to make updates and changes.
While webmasters hate being
replaced, if they don't start giving people what they want, there
wont be a place for them at all.
If they just embraced site
builders, they would realize it makes them that much more
valuable, able to do more in less time and make more money.
I don't see any of them
switching back to DOS from windows.
Eventually, they will come
around, but right now it is more like a war between webmasters
and site builders.
Sadly for the webmasters, the
site builders are winning.
