SEO Service Scams

After about the 10th day of getting an advertisement that my website needed SEO services from the same spammer I decided to call them to get this over with.

The first thing I said was I got their email saying my website could not be found in the searches and I needed help to get to #1 on google. They assured me they could do that for me for $2500 initial cost and $200 a month.

The next question I asked was what was the name of their company and what is their website.

Then I told them that I searched google for SEO services and I could not find them on pages 1 through 20. And I asked, if they are so good, why isn't their website listed?

The person told me they are too busy with clients sites to work on their own SEO.

Well, I said, "if you are too busy to work on your one website then you are too busy to take on the work from one more website like mine. So I need to contact another SEO service."

After a few minutes of the SEO Professional trying to justify why they were not on page one of the google searches I said, enough is enough. If you can't show me that you can produce with your own website, why would I ever trust you with mine? And then promptly hung up.

The Internet is full of the SEO Scammers!

They send out bulk spam to every website owner they can find until someone bites and pays the fees to get their website in google page one for something. But that never actually happens and the website owner is out a bundle of cash and the SEO Scammer is nowhere to be found.

The fact is, they can't do it and they wont do it. They just take your money and run.

Even the ones that try to put up a good front might do some work, but the result is the same, not #1 in google or any other search engine.

Why can't they get me to #1?

The fact is, if anyone could get t #1 using any technique then companies like amazon, ebay, walmart and others with unlimited budgets would take over the results for everything. They could hire these SEO experts full time and control all of the search engine traffic.

But as you see when you search, that is not the case.

If it was, the search engines would be useless and google would be broke and out of business.

Think of the problem like the US government trying to prevent counterfeit money. They have to change the security, add magnetic tapes, colored threads and now even holograms to cash to prevent anyone from creating counterfeit cash.

Google has to do the same to prevent SEO experts from controlling the results.

One year alone, google changed the way they rank pages almost 500 times. That is more than one time every single day.

By doing that, google prevents anyone from seeing any type of trend or figuring out what they do. It also distributes traffic over more websites and gives users a broader overview of the websites online.

So even if the expert knew what google was doing to rank pages, the would have to change your website 500 times a year to keep up and since the delay in indexing new content can be 3 month or more, they could never sync up your pages with the current ranking algorithm.

It is just impossible to predict wen random crawlers will access your pages and when the index will compile data and when it will be applied to the current algorithm. Even the people at google with all of their processing power and super computers could not predict it and they know the formula and when it will be applied.

And that is the whole point, nobody knows so the ranking can't be compromised. So that companies with huge budgets can't control the results pages.

Now, if amazon, walmart and ebay can't control the results why do you think on your limited budget you will be able to do it?

The Internet my be very young in technology but it was not invented yesterday and the search engines have learned a thing or tow about hat people do and how to manage it.

In fact, it the see anyone trying to manipulate the results they just block the website completely as well as anyone promoting the website, linking to it or seemingly involved in it.

Yes, it is unfair allowing google to be the judge, jury and executioner but that is how it works when google is an independant business and allowed to do what it wants when it wants. It is not regulated and enjoys the same freedom that your business does.

What is the Solution?

If you cannot depend on SEO to get placed in the search engines what is the solution?

The answer is simple but nobody wants to hear it, because it involves work and they would rather cling to the idea that they can pay an SEO company to do it for them and as a result all of these SEO Scammers continue to make money and fill up my inbox with ads.

But the real solution is just to build content. Add pages, articles and text to pages, more pages and more pages.

There is no magic, no secret, no special formula. Just create pages with the content that you want people to find.

SEO in a Nutshell

Ask yourself when you search for "800.555.1212" a sample phone number, does your website come up?

No, because you don't have "800.555.1212" on your pages. The pages that do show up have that exact text string on the pages because that is what you searched for.

You don't want websites that have similar numbers or other text on the pages that might be related to that string. So google shows the pages that have that on the page.

Of course if 5 million pages have the same string then google has to decide who gets listed higher using those advanced algorithms. But only the websites that have the searched words will be eligible for the results.

So to qualify, you must have the words on one of your pages.

In "REAL SEO" webmasters make sure you have the right words on the pages and have enough text to support the keywords on the page.

So which words are the keywords on the page?

All of them, every single word on a page is a keyword on the page.

The reason people don';t find your website when they search for "Tickle Me Elmo" is because you don;t have the words, "tickle me elmo" on your page.

It really is that simple.

Of course if the search is for "Tickle Me Elmo" and you website has a paragraph like:

"On a sunny day my friend and I were playing in my room. My friend named Elmo who was my age and attended the same school decided to tickle me."

It will not rank as high as a website that has this text:

"Tickle Me Elmo For Sale $20".

And that is simply because the second example has the exact string while the first example has the words but not in the order that the were searched.

It is not really complicated at all and it shouldn't be or nobody would ever get found online.

The most import thing you need to remember is that you have to have the words you want to be found for on your page. Without that key element, nothing else matters.

What to tell the Scammers

The next time someone contacts you about SEO and tells you that your website is not working, ask how they found you. Because they found your website.

Tell them, if they found your website then in fact it is working or they would not have found you.

And if you are really worried about SEO, then add some more pages, build those keywords and content pages up so you have more to be found for and you will get more customers.
