Web
Programing For Under $100
If anyone has looked around,
you will find all sorts of software systems for just a few
dollars which proclaim to allow you to run your own myspace or
youtube type websites.
The problem is, they lack any
serious architecture that would support any significant number of
users. The programmer builds something easy and that can run on
any average website. And in most cases, the user will never
achieve capacity since 99.9% of all new websites fail very quickly.
The market shows a false front
on what programing should actually cost. People belive that a
website like ebay can be built for a few hundred dollars or
google for under $100.
But there is a reason why
Microsoft spent over $100 million dollars programing their own
google clone. If they could have done it for $100, I am pretty
sure they would have opted for that route instead.
Getting the average user to
understand the cost of quality programing is almost impossible
becuase of the extent of lousy programing being offered and the
number of scammers offering services that they can't really
provide.
It is nice to think that you
could outsource the programing of google to India for $100, but
very unrealistic. Sure they can build you a search engine, but
never near the capacity of a real search engine like google. You
might get a search capable of searching a few web pages but
nothing more.
The same is true for most
applications. They will support a few people, but if the site has
any success, it will overload crash and burn.
If the website owner knew that
the website could only manage 200 users before maxing out the
server, they probably would never start since they expect 200
million users in a few short months.
So what is the serious statup
supposed to do? How can anyone afford to get their foot in the
door?
If your startup is starting
with a software budget of $100, you might want to consider the
actual potential. How far will the programing take you? How far
will your investment take you?
You wont go far with a $100
budget. You can of course be taken by someone that wants your $100
and will feed you a sloppy off the shelf application installed on
a low end hosting account.
My advice is to avoid trying
to take over the world. If you only have $100 to spend, stay in a
market your can afford to compete in.
You can certainly build a
website for under $100 and even install some pretty wonderful
shopping software to sell products. Or use a system like pagebuzz
for even less money for a complete website and shopping cart.
Like any business, if the sky
is the limit, there will be more scammers than legit players.
There will be more deals than dealers and there will be room for
more people to lose everything they have.
You need to think reasonably.
Why do companies spend millions of dollars on programing? Why do
programers make $100,000.00 a year. And how much time is that
programmer going to spend writing your software for $100?
Thinking you can buy a website
for $100 is like thinking you can buy a car for $100.
Although you certianly can, we
all know what kind of car we can buy for $100.
Just compare the value of that
purchase to the value of buying a website software system for $100.
Neither one is sound
investment.
