How To Make Money Online with a Website

We could never write enough articles about how to make money with a website.

Everyone thinks you open a website and the money shows up in the mail. But of course anyone with any reasonable level of sanity knows better. The problem is, those people are few and far between

We have people getting rich running retail businesses and we have people that make nothing and do nothing but still complain that they are not making any money.

Recently a discussion with a customer that had a website up for 3 months revealed that they had 20 sales in that time solely generated by the website.

That alone is nothing to write home about. Or is it?

Approximately $60 in investment resulted in 20 customer sales. No matter how you look at it, that number is strong.

And, not only did the website do the advertising, it also processed the sales and completed the transactions.

But 20 sales of about $50 each is not going to make anyone rich. Still there is no other medium that can produce the same results for such a small investment.

To increase that income, you need to reach beyond the website.

You should never expect the website to do the work for you. You need to push customers to the website so the website can process the sales. If the website earns sales on its own, that is a bonus.

The fact that this web hosting client had done nothing and had sales is pure proof that the website does work. Unfortunately, the hosting client didn't do anything except wait for sales.

As a company that makes 100% of its income providing web services of some sort, we know you can make insane amounts of money online.

But you still need to work. You still need to advertise.

Our hosting clients don't show up, we find them and advertise as much as our resources permit.

Like any website, pageBuzz.com will bring in it's own hosting clients, but not enough to pay the bills. The system earns more than a substantial income, but through extensive efforts to bring in new clients.

If we sat back and waited, we would likely still be waiting for our first customer.

If you start a new website, its nothing without some promotion.

If you wait for Mr Google to bring in buyers, you will be wasting your time. Not that you wont get buyers, because in all likelihood, you will. But not the numbers you desire.

Basic Advertising

If you run 1 ad and you get 3 sales. It just makes sense if you run 3 times as many ads, you get 3 times as many sales.

The advantage of a website is that the cost is low. So anyone with $20 a month to spend can start an online business. But if you only spend $20, don't expect much more than that back out of the website.

If you spend an extensive amount of time online promoting your products then you will get some benefit from that.

You don't have to spend hard cash to make money. But you do have to make more of an effort than waiting around to get rich.

There are countless ways to make money online:

  • Affiliate Programs

  • Blogs and News Sites

  • Online Classifieds

  • Auction Sites like ebay.com

  • e-Commerce Sites & Shopping

  • Review Sites

It does not matter what a site does, there is a way to make money with it. But there will always be one common denominator. You need to get people to the website.

If you can get traffic, you can make money.

Not that could be with a viral cat video that gets 10 million views or it might be with a new clothing line that sells at upscale boutiques. In every case, the amount of money you make will be related to the number of people you get to your website.

You can use:

  • Social Media

  • Online Ads or Banners

  • Newspaper ads

  • TV Ads

  • Radio Ads

Or just about anything else you can think of.

The point is, you can't depend on the website to do all of the work.

We all laugh about the local business that has some guy dress up in a chicken suit on the corner holding a sign. But it gets the job done. The business is visible and people get the message.

Having a website is like having that same guy in the chicken suit stand in your garage with the door closed.

So to get more attention, open the door and march that chicken into the busiest corner in the town.

It is a simple concept and one that is true for the chick and your website!
