Did you know google is
at war with your SEO practices?
It seems crazy that just a few
years ago google was not even known and now people bow at its
feet and worship it like it is a GOD.
But with great power comes
great responsibility, and google has become a dictatorship. They
dictate how you should build your website, what should be on it,
who you can link to, who can link to you, what page formatting
you use and so on.
Now, maybe I missed the memo
but when did God retire and google become GOD?
Webmasters swear by google
tools, but all google is doing is increasing their footprint on
the Internet and turning down the screws on every business owner.
In fact, they have become so
powerful that it has come back to bite them in the ass.
Google based its rankings on
how many other websites linked back to you. Assuming if so many
other people said you are popular then in fact you are.
Now they created the system
because, nobody was abusing it since google was still nobody.
But now all these years later
google has a war on their hands, one they created, one they
started.
For years webmasters have been
linking from as many websites as possible, exchanging links and
buying links from other sites. They did this to increase their
link relevancy and push their websites up in google page rank.
Keep in mind, this was google's
plan to figure out what was popular and what was not popular. So
they encouraged webmasters to do this, have other people link
back to you.
Now after years of webmasters
doing just that, google has found that this method does not work
well any longer. Because like everything else it is abused by
everyone.
That the entire basis of their
search, the thing that made them better is no longer valid. But
still, a huge part of their search depends on it.
So they tried to get
webmasters to remove links or disavow other sites linking to you.
Basically, tell them that if they are buying links, we will
penalize you. You know, put the fear God in them.
So how does this work?
Now if I build a spam site and
link to all of my competitors I can take them out of the searches?
If I run an add or a banner
and they find the link back to my site do I get penalized?
This is not good stuff. It
scares anyone from buying an ad on any website other than google.
It blames people for what
other people are doing on their websites.
Webmasters are running around
like chickens with their heads cut off trying to get other
webmasters to remove links to their website, which is just insane
and defeats the entire basis of the Internet forcing webmasters
to not link to any site except google.
Of course that is never going
to work.
But google is at war with all
the websites and their SEO practices. They can't have any single
webmaster figuring out how to get to #1 because the search
engines would be flooded with spam.
Now, google estimates that 1
million spam pages are added to the Internet every hour, 24
million a day. I think that is a serious under estimate and they
probably do as well, but why scare people.
So I understand why google
needs to make changes and filter out spammy sites, but doing it
by using the same method they used to create the popular sites
does not make sense.
But then again, google has not
made sense for many years now, so that is no surprise either.
So where are we?
What do we do with our
websites?
How do we keep from getting
banned from google for doing what they told us to do 10 years ago?
My suggestion, just ignore it
all. Run your business and forget about google.
If you are not running ads
because you are afraid of google, then they are running your
business.
If you don't put a link on a
page because you are afraid of google, then they are running the
entire Internet.
Is it the Internet or the
googlenet?
It seems like in the short
term google's solution has been to rank sites based on company
income and revenue models.
So now sites like walmart.com,
amazon.com, buy.com and others control the ecommerce searches.
Certainly that gives users links that are know to be solid
companies and it is a very safe way for google to run their index.
But, that is not how it has
been run for the last decade.
The Internet was an
opportunity for anyone. A chance to make millions with no
investment, the path to a dream and an even playing field for
small retailers competing with mega stores like walmart and
target.
But now, it appears the top
results seem to be similar to the the ads being run. So if a
company dumps millions into google ads they seem to be at the top
of the searches.
Now, if you are paying
attention, there seems to be something very sinister about what
google is doing.
It is no longer a valuable
tool for webmasters, it is a waring corporation blatantly
blocking honest webmasters and propelling their advertisers to
the top of the "unbiased" result pages.
It is sad to see this type of
behavior, but mark my words.
This is the same behavior that
AOL exhibited when they were the largest company in the world and
where are they now?
Google has strong competition
from BING and Yahoo and despite their foray into phone service
and everything else, when they lose their core audience it will
be a quick fall to the bottom.
Let hope they get their act
together and start acting responsibly like they should.
For now, as webmasters, just
sit back and wait to see what their next move is before you get
caught in the war on SEO and destroy your customers website
completely.
