Choosing a Domain
Name
At this point in the life of the Internet
you are trying to find a name that has not been registered by
someone else. Of course all the good names were taken way back in
1998. So you will have to be creative with your name and find
something unique.
Lets say I want shopping.com,
of course it is already taken.
Some good alternate name ideas would be to
add a simple word to your name such as a location.
Try "shoppingflorida.com"
or "shoppingfl.com"
Common addons include terms like online,
my, best, better, big, biggest, new, now, live, store, supply.
for example:
onlineshopping.com
shoppingonline.com
myshopping.com
bestshopping.com
mybestshopping.com
newshopping.com
newshoppinglive.com
shoppingnow.com
bettershopping.com
myshoppingstore.com
shoppingsupply.com
Another addon could be more related to the
product line. If your store will sell music, you can add words
like music, notes, lessons, band, dj ect.
musicshopping.com
bandsupplyshopping.com
shoppingnotes.com
The name of your
domain will not affect your search rank or how the pages are
indexed. Don't belive
that rumor? Look at the biggest names in the business. amazon.com,
yahoo.com, google.com, walmart.com, ebay.com, none of them have
products in their name and still have healthy online traffic.
Names can be silly like squigglebot.com
or more serious like e-commerceinc.com. The name
means very little to the search engine. It only needs to fit on
your business card and be something your customers will remember
when they do not have that card in their hand.
People can remember "pageBuzz.com" but they would
not remember "websiteshosting4587pagesemailandmore.com" and if you could remember it, the chance of
typing it correctly without a typo are slim. So keep the name as
short and simple as possible.
