Fictitious URL Redirects

Also know as tiny url, url shorteners or url masking. This technique is often used at sites like facebook and twitter to hide the true nature of the link or to simplify a complex link.

Each pagebuzz website has full url shortening capabilities that can be useful when using outside websites or when trying to cloak a link from potential clickers.

This can be used with outside links such as affiliate programs or link exchanges. For example you may be required to link to https://walmart.com/products/forsale?someaffiliateid=2554367871&othersuff, but you want something that you can print on a business card. So using your own domain with an extra slash and a name you can simplify the link to www.mydomain.com/walmart.

The biggest advantage of having your own redirect program is that you name the links. So the names are easy to remember and can be used for more than just linking on twitter and facebook. They can be used for outside advertising, print advertising, tv advertising and signage.

Another advantage is that when you turn the link off, all the traffic from any link you may have posted will still go to your website. So after the promotion is over you still reap the rewards as long as those links remain in place.

Since so many people use tinyurl.com it is often seen as spamy and links can be removed or not indexed. So having a slightly lower profile domain name such as your own can be a huge advantage in cloaking links and making them look more desirable.

Each website has the capacity to mange up to 100 fictitious redirects with 100 unique urls. All remove urls will be redirected to your home page and not to an outside website.

Redirects are also great for shortening long urls on your own website. Since twitter is very limited, items in your shopping cart may not fit. Such as a sale item here on smallmartstore.com https://smallmartstore.com/programs/shop/simplecart.cgi?category=Jump_Suits&showitem=17826 which can be shortened to https://smallmartstore.com/sale for outside posting.

While redirect may seem like a complex tool we have simplified the process in an easy to manage list that can be updated as often as needed. With a limit of 100 urls you won't be offering a url shortening service, but you can use it quite effectively in your own website and advertising campaigns.

This type of feature is not a typical tool for a website hosting company or sitebuilder. As a matter of fact I don't ever recall seeing a tool like this at any website host as part of their base tools or even as an add on.

As a site builder without ftp access or the ability for developers to install outside scripts it is important that we think outside the box. Adding tools such as this url resolver and fictitious redirect we can provide ready to go solutions without any need for the website owner to do programming.

This also provides tools for developers that know that their time is worth to much to fumble through programming code to write user interfaces for their customers and then supporting it as they use it and expose all the bugs. We take all the headaches out of web development and provide a higher value end product with advanced tools and software.
