Is your website too old? Is the design dated?

We all face getting old, but does your website have to?

If you built your website 5, 10 or even 15 years ago if probably needs some attention.

The sad part is that some people are more worried updating their home than their business website. For their home, they change landscaping, plant trees, paint different colors add a fence, tear out the old and make it new.

After all, nobody wants to live in an old dated house. While the brady bunch style hose was great back in 1960 is it just as appealing today?

House flipper make millions by transforming old neglected and dated interiors to modern open and inviting homes that people love to live in.

So why would anyone want to shop on your old out dated website?

That is right, they don't and that is what you had so many sales and you just see less and less each year, because people move on to new things.

Yesterday they used Myspace, the Facebook came along and now mobile apps are taking the place of both of them. And all that time, your website sat and watched ad never changed.

First, I will commend you for being smart enough to have a website in the first place.

But you can't pay a website $300 to build 5 pages and sit back and look at it for 15 years. You have to make updates, bring the design up to date and add more current information.

If you bought a brand new car 15 years ago, it is not still a new car. It is old, faded and worn out. And even if you kept it in amazing condition, people look at it as an old outdated car or even an antique.

So what are the basic rules for updating your website?

  • Keep the design fresh and current

  • Keep the content current

  • Use current references and facts

  • Add a blog to show dates and times of postings

  • Use contemporary media

Keeping The Design Fresh

Just like fashion website designs get dated and go out of style. If your website is out of style it could really hurt your business. So make sure you do updates every few years, not so much to the content, but to the overall design.

You don't have to rebuild your entire website if you use pageBuzz, just change the look to a more updated style.

One of the great things about sitebuilder is that you can upload a new template of design and update your look without changing any of the actual pages.

This makes staying current as easy as spending a few hours a year on some simple changes.

Keep the Content Current

Just because you don't need to work on the pages does not mean that you shouldn't. The content needs to be current, fresh and contemporary. If your prices have changed, update them. If you sell products then change the information to the new models.

OH, but that is so much work, right?

Get used to it, that is how the world works now. Would you go to Macys.com if they had the same clothes you saw for the last 3 years? Would you buy a new car if it was the same as the one you bought 10 years ago?

So why would anyone want to see the same information on your website year after year after year?

Use Current References and Facts

If you have articles or statements on your website make sure they are up to date. If you have something talking about the President Bill Clinton people might question whether you are a time traveler or just dis not realize he retired 20 years ago.

References to Myspace or the Excite or Altavista search engine will leave readers wondering where you have been for the last 20 years.

So update your pages, or add dates so people know when the content was written.

Add A Blog

Blogs are one of the easiest ways to stay fresh with content. They are easy to update and archive the old articles automatically with dates so users know when something was relavent.

If we create an article on how to use the search engines, we have to update it when the searches change. So blogs are great tools so you don't have to go back and update everything you have created over time.

Use Contemporary Media

At one time having a barking dog or a bird with flapping wings was cool. But the silly animations of the 90's have been replaced with video and flash presentations.

You need to embrace multi media and bring your site around to the current trends.

Youtube is not just a fad, with 1 billions visitors each month youtubers upload more than 100 hours of new video every minute.

How many videos do you have on your website? Did you say ZERO?

Don't you think maybe it is time to update that design, get your website back in the searches and start building that online presence that you have ignored for so long?

There is no better time than right now to get started. Stop reading these articles and create some of your own.
