How to build your own website

To build or not to build.

Day in and day out I need to explain to people why they should build their own website. Most cry that it wont look good ad it wont be professional.

SO WHAT!

Your website is a direct link between you and your customer. If you are a one on one business, you wont impress anyone with fancy graphics and flassy logos. Infact, a over fancy website is the cause of more lost business than anything else.

If I am a small business and I need a local accountant.

I look at the website and it was done by some professional graphics company. Immediately I assume I can't afford this accountant. But in fact it is just some lady working out of a home office that charges $20 an hour.

If you are a local business with local rates, the website should reflect that.

If you hire a professional designer, the site will reflect that designer and not you.

You should not alienate the customer by making them think you are something you are not.

If your website looks like some giant leagal firm and you show up in a ford festiva and your office is your breifcase, the client will be disapointed in you immediately.

The laws of direct marketing alway apply.

Advertise truthfully and you will get an honest client and build an honest business.

It may seem nice to embelsih and make your business look biger than it is. However, eventually your client will learn the truth and lose faith in you and your service.

You have to assume that someone who is interested in buying handmade handbags is not going to be impressed with a fancy website but more so with a website that is easy to navigate and has clear and detailed images of the acual product.

All too often I see a bigger flasy banner than the actual images of the product.

Stop trying to be a profesional webmaster and show the customers that your product is worth buying.

People build their own websites on pageBuzz because it s easy to understand. But then they want to ignore the same aspect with their own clients.

Your client is the same as you. They want clear organized and understandable content. They don't care how much you spent on the website but they will care if you cut corners on your product.
